Uniform Survey

Look at all the coats and/or bags in your class.

Make a note of how many are dark coloured, how many are light and how many are bright. Show these on a bar chart.

How many coats or bags have a reflective trim on them? (You may need to test using our Bright Tube experiment). Reflective trims are becoming more popular but not everything that looks reflective really is - sometimes it’s just shiny grey paint. When do the reflective bits help you to be seen?

Are any coats or bags fluorescent or have a fluorescent trim on them? Does anyone wear a fluorescent, reflective waistcoat, sash or have a fluorescent bag (not just reflective?)

What colour is your school uniform? Do you think it is easy for cars to see you when you go home? How can you make yourselves brighter?

Carry out a survey: Do children in your school like bright things? How many children in each class would like to wear or carry something fluorescent and reflective...if they were the only one?...if everyone in the school did the same? What is the favourite fluorescent colour...for boys?...for girls? Do people in your school think it is a good idea to be bright?
