High Vis Fashion Show

This is a real favourite! Get high vis on the catwalk. Borrow a selection of high visibility clothing and accessories (you may be able to borrow a pack from your local road safety department) or they can be purchased from us.

  • Start with some traditional styles - to show how workmen, lorry drivers etc wear it to be bright. Use props to show jobs (eg toolbox, cardboard spare wheel)
  • Then have a child wearing a traditional yellow one to show it’s for all ages (this child could produce a teddy in one of our mini high vis waistcoats at this point to show it’s for all sizes)!
  • Some other children can then come on wearing different colour waistcoats - to show it can be different colours.... introduce one colour at a time and say when it is worn eg ‘Mary is wearing her fluorescent pink waistcoat with reflective band which she wears when she goes riding on her horse/cycling/walking home from school’
  • Introduce children carrying high vis items to show it doesn’t have to be a waistcoat; caps, umbrella, bag, sash one or several at a time. Show on each item which part is fluorescent and which reflective (keep emphasising this throughout the show) and when the different parts can be seen.
  • Throughout the show add any more information into the commentary such as ‘when the clocks change it will be getting near twilight at hometime so wearing this fluorescent jacket will help Johnny to be seen’.
  • Add any seasonal events and models, eg a witch costume for Halloween with reflective shapes added to cloak, cauldron and hat.
  • When they are all on stage, they can perform something such as a ‘Bright Rap’ - written by the children.
  • Finish off by handing out torches, closing curtains, turning the lights off and getting the audience to shine their torches on the reflective bits.
