Press Release: BrightKidz at Eco Fest From Alison Holland, BrightKidz (Safe Kids Walking Ltd), Wednesday 12 September 2007 ‘Be Bright, Be Seen, Be Safe’ was the message for the many parents and children who visted the BrightKidz stand at Derby’s EcoFest at the weekend. The BrightKidz display of fluorescent, reflective clothing, bags and snapbands in different colours proved that being safe can look good too. BrightKidz is a social enterprise (not for profit business) promoting road safety, walking and cycling for children. They sell a wide range of fluorescent, reflective clothing and accessories for all ages, specialising in stylish children’s products. Proceeds from sales are used to support the organisation’s work. Their display was part of the Travelwise section of Ecofest to encourage more people to walk, cycle and be safe near traffic. BrightKidz founder Alison Holland said ‘Being seen when you are out cycling or walking is important all year round, day and night. We want children to be safe and visible to drivers, especially on dull days and as the autumn nights draw in. It’s also important that children regularly walk to and from school for their health, the environment and so they can learn to cope with traffic’. BrightKidz Quiz Winner: Isobelle Hardy, Aston on Trent Children visiting the stand also took part in a quiz about how bright, fluorescent colours help them to be seen in daytime and near dusk, whereas reflective materials help them to be seen after dark. The winner was Isobelle Hardy of Aston on Trent who received a BrightKidz fluorescent yellow PE bag as her prize.
